Religious Education (RE) Program

“The great end in religious education is not to stamp our minds upon the young, but to stir up their own; not to make them see with our eyes, but to look inquiringly and steadily with their own… In a word, the great end is to awaken the soul, to excite and cherish spiritual life.” – William Ellery Channing

Learning goals:

• We want our children and teens to enjoy being in RE and to feel like they are a valued part of our community.
• We want our children to gain basic religious literacy.
• We want our children to gain interpersonal skills and learn leadership skills.

As Unitarian Universalist adults, we are engaged in a lifelong search for truth and goodness. We want to prepare our children and teens to join us on that search, when they become adults.

What do our children need on a Sunday morning?

• They need to light a candle and have a quiet moment to enjoy its mystery.
• They need to sing a song and feel the feelings stirred by music.
• They need to hear a story and have a chance to share their own.
• They need to create something using words, movement, or materials.

That’s what religion is.
