This Week's Sermon

Rev. Tony Lorenzen
A Decent Cup of Coffee

Life is like a game of Monopoly. Everyone starts with the same amount of money and the same chance to win. The board is flat; it's a level playing field - or is it? Maybe life isn't like a game of Monopoly. Maybe all we can expect is a decent cup of coffee.

News and Announcements

Candidating Week: June 1-8
Rev. Tony Lorenzen, wife Tina, and son Zach will be with us the week of June 1 - 8 for candidating week. Tony will be in the pulpit on both of those Sundays and will be attending Pathways functions scheduled throughout that week. Mark your calendar now and plan on attending one or more of the events so that you get the opportunity to get to know Tony and his family. During this important week, please remember to wear your nametag to all events to assist Tony and his family in getting to know everyone.

Schedule for candidating week

After the service on June 8th, the congregation members will meet to vote on whether to call Tony Lorenzen to be our settled minister. If called, Tony would begin his work with Pathways on September 15, 2008.

During the month of August and early September our wonderful Worship Network Team will see that our pulpit is filled each Sunday.

New Board Members Elected
New members of the Pathways Board of Trustees were elected at the Spring Congregational Meeting on Sunday, May 18. Our appreciation and congratulations to newly-elected board members Marian Cartwright, who will be filling a one-year term, and Gene Stockton and Joyce Frey, who will be filling three-year terms. Tracee Fisher fills a one-year term, returning after her appointment to the Board to fill a vacated term. Many thanks to the Nominating Committee for their work putting together this slate.

Our deepest thanks to the three board members who are stepping down at the end of June. Stan Roskoski completes one year of service. Pete DeKalb finishes a three-year term. Kristin Robertson steps down after having served since Pathways' beginnings. Your dedication and service is greatly appreciated!

Tax Rebates and Pathways
Members and friends of Pathways Church, we have experienced tremendous generosity during this year's pledge drive and our heartfelt thanks to all! In spite of our generous giving, we have fallen short of our pledge goal and we remain in a non-sustainable deficit spending mode. With our federal government preparing to send out rebates, please consider donating your rebate to Pathways. The following link provides excellent information on this issue.

Lifespan Enrichment

Wednesday Evening Salon
The Wednesday Evening Salon happens each week, with a rotating list of events. Something exciting happens every week! Childcare reservations must be made before noon on Tuesday.

4th Wednesday Schedule (this week):
6:00 p.m. Sit 'N Knit
Join us in our love of making things with sticks and string. Come as you are, everyone is welcome. If you already knit, bring your project. If you want to learn, we have extra needles, practice yarn, and easy patterns to get you started. Share patterns, stitches, techniques, stories, and celebrate the finished objects.
6:30 p.m. Brown Bag Supper
7:00 p.m. Meditation for Children
Meditation is a wonderful tool for physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. It improves concentration and memory, enhances self-understanding and spiritual development, and helps our ability to handle stress. Parents may attend with their child(ren) so that the family can practice these simple meditation techniques together.
7:00 p.m. Buddhist Reflections
Sessions begin and end with meditation and include background material as well an opportunity for discussion of practical applications of Buddhist teachings. Sessions will evolve and be balanced to meet the needs to the group. Beginners to both meditation and Buddhism are welcome. Drop-ins are welcome. Open to adults and high school students.
7:00 p.m. Mah Jongg
If you like to play cards, this is a lot more fun, and a bit more challenging - about as challenging as Sudoku (not as challenging as bridge). There is no betting or score keeping. There will, however, be fun and good people! Beginners are welcome, as are adults and teens.

1st Wednesday Schedule (next week):
6:00 p.m. Catered Dinner with Rev. Tony Lorenzen
Come and meet our ministerial candidate over dinner before meeting with your salon group! Please RSVP to your group facilitator by June 1. Rev. Tony will then drop in briefly with each group meeting below.
